Paws, Portraits and Keeping it Real: Bringing Your Dog to Your Wedding

There’s a reason they’re called man’s best friend, isn't there? For most of the couples I meet, their dog isn't just a pet—they’re a massive part of the family. So, when it comes to the big day, it only feels right that they’re there to see you say "I do."

Whether it’s a Golden Retriever acting as a slightly distracted Ring Bearer or a Terrier just stopping by for the portraits and a bit of a fuss, having your pup involved adds a layer of genuine joy that you just can’t script. As a wedding photographer, I absolutely love it. Dogs don’t care about the schedule or the speeches; they just want to be near you, and those moments of cold-nose nudges and wagging tails make for some of the most authentic photos of the day.

The Best Kind of Unpredictability

I’ve seen firsthand how a quick cuddle with a dog can instantly settle a couple's nerves. There's something about that unconditional love that reminds you to just stay in the moment and enjoy yourself.

My only real bit of advice? Enlist a "dog chaperone." Find a mate who isn't in the wedding party to handle the treats, the water, and the transport home. It means you get all the cuddles and the photos without having to worry about who’s holding the lead when it’s time for the champagne!

From floral collars to that grand entrance down the aisle, here are a few of my favourite moments where the four-legged guests very nearly stole the show...

The Pre-Wedding "Warm Up"

If you’re worried about your dog getting overwhelmed by a big crowd, or if your venue doesn’t allow pets, a pre-wedding shoot is the perfect middle ground. It’s a chance for us to head out into the Yorkshire countryside—whether it’s a woodland walk or a bit of a trek through the heather—and get some relaxed, beautiful photos of you as a family of three (or four!). It’s a great way for your dog to get used to the camera (and me!) in a setting where they feel completely at home.

Planning a Dog-Friendly Wedding?

Your best friend deserves to be in the frame, and I’m all about capturing those quiet, candid, and often hilarious moments that happen when pets join the party.

Whether you’re looking for a Rossington Hall wedding photographer or a Norwood Park wedding photographer, I know exactly where to find the best light and the quietest spots for you (and your pup) to take five minutes away from the crowd.
